Usage Limit Best Practices

Tips for getting the most from your plan

1. How your negotiation limit works

Each Negotiately subscription includes a set number of negotiations per month, and your limit resets on the first day of each billing cycle. Single Negotiation packs are one-time $5 purchases whose credits never expire and stack if you buy more.

2. What counts as a negotiation

Each new negotiation session you start counts as one negotiation against your limit. Within a session, you can exchange as many messages as needed — follow-up questions, revised offers, and counter-offer refinements do not consume additional negotiations.

Deep Think sessions are counted separately and are only available on Elite and Enterprise Elite plans.

3. Prepare before you start

The quality of the AI's analysis depends heavily on what you bring into the session. Before opening a new negotiation, take a moment to gather:

  • Your goal: What outcome do you want — a number, a timeline, a concession?
  • The other party's position: Paste their latest message or offer verbatim so the AI can read their exact wording.
  • Background context: How long have negotiations been going, what offers have already been exchanged, and what constraints exist on either side?
  • Your leverage: Any facts that strengthen your position — competing offers, market data, deadlines, or alternatives you can walk away with.

Starting with complete context means fewer back-and-forth clarifications and a more actionable first response.

4. Be specific about your situation

Vague descriptions produce generic advice. Specific details produce tactics you can actually use. Compare:

Less useful

“They offered me a lower salary than I wanted.”

More useful

“They offered $95k. I have a competing offer at $105k and 4 years of directly relevant experience. Their job posting was up for 3 months, suggesting they've had trouble filling this role.”

Include numbers, timelines, and any signals about the other party's urgency or constraints whenever you have them.

5. Review before submitting

Before running the AI on a new session, quickly check that your submission includes:

  • The other party's exact words (not a paraphrase)
  • Your current position and what you're willing to accept
  • Any relevant context that's changed since the last round
  • The type of negotiation (salary, real estate, vendor contract, etc.)

A 30-second review before submitting often saves a full negotiation later.

6. Monitor your usage

You can see how many negotiations you've used this month in your account settings. If you're running low, consider whether open sessions can be continued with follow-up messages rather than starting new negotiations. If you regularly hit your limit, upgrading to the next plan will give you more headroom without losing any session history.

7. Deep Think sessions (Elite & Enterprise Elite)

Deep Think uses extended reasoning to work through complex, multi-party, or high-stakes scenarios that benefit from more deliberate analysis. It consumes a Deep Think credit rather than a standard negotiation credit.

Save Deep Think for situations where the stakes justify the extra analysis:

  • Multi-party deals with competing interests or coalitions
  • High-value negotiations where a small percentage improvement has large absolute impact
  • Scenarios where the other party's tactics are hard to read or contradictory
  • Complex legal or contractual negotiations with many interdependent terms

For straightforward negotiations — a single counter-offer, a routine vendor renewal, a subscription cancellation — the standard agent will give you what you need.

8. Scenario-specific tips

Salary & compensation

  • Include your current comp, the offer on the table, and any competing offers upfront.
  • Mention the role, company size, and location — market rates vary significantly.
  • If you know why the role has been open or whether there's a hiring deadline, include it.

Real estate

  • Provide the listing price, your offer, and any comps you're aware of.
  • Note how long the property has been on the market and whether there have been price reductions.
  • Mention contingencies already agreed to or requested — inspection, financing, closing timeline.

Car purchase

  • Include the MSRP, the dealer's current ask, and any competing quotes from other dealers.
  • Mention whether you're paying cash or financing — dealers respond differently to each.
  • Note end-of-month or end-of-quarter timing if relevant; it affects dealer incentives.

Vendor & contractor contracts

  • Paste the relevant contract clauses or the vendor's proposal verbatim.
  • State which terms are blocking and which you're flexible on.
  • Include any alternative vendors or your walk-away scenario.
